Save energy by implementing automated controls

The still photo cannot show the movement but this shot is of an airport up and down escalator operating with no customers. Responsible stewardship should require us to do better with examples like this. The escalators serve a very good purpose when they are needed by facilitating easier customer travel and reducing potential injuries from falls, strains, etc. However, did anyone think about the many times during the day that nobody would be utilizing the escalator?
