Can you spot the wasted energy? This coffee kiosk is located in an area with natural light shining into it for most of the day, helping to eliminate the need for lights. However, this kiosk still has lights shining above the menu. Why would they do this? Having bright lights above the menu draws the customer over because it is visible from a far distance. In the end, the bright lights are a selling factor.
Have you ever taken a moment to stop and look around you to see where energy is being wasted? That is how these lights were spotted. The next time you walk through a lobby or even sit at your desk, take a look around you and see if you can spot wasted energy. What could you look for? Anything—including coffee pots left on all day, space heaters, fans, unnecessary lights, computers…and if you spot something, take the opportunity to tell someone about it or take care of it yourself! Even looking through your own home could help you save money on your next energy bill. So think about it, do the lights really draw you towards the coffee shop, or do you see it as wasted energy?
